Information in modern society has spread at a rapid rate, and like many other professions Architecture has been affected by this both positively and negatively. Techniques, materials, ideas, and beliefs have all led to a cultural change that has then been reflected in the built environment and how cities are being developed. I believe that the future development of the urban fabric should be on rediscovering what the site and culture for the city signifies. A design process with site and culture as the leading factor to create contextual architecture beyond the aesthetic qualities.
My focus is on creating a cultural hub in my hometown of Lima, Peru. It will consist of a transit center, a trade school, a museum, as well as a large public green space. The trade school will educate people on crafts ranging from the language and cooking, to music and textiles. Open studios will allow for the gallery and green space to become an extension of this cultural learning so that the public is able to partake as well. Combined with the introduction of a public transit center, a once car driven Lima will become re-centered around its culture and people.
